School buildings

Construction of a passive school building at the Reid for the Haute Ecole of the Province of Liège

La Reid (Theux) / 2016

This construction project, on the site of the La Reid agronomic campus, is spread over two levels. On the ground floor, it has three audiences (250 and 80 seats) and twelve classes. Upstairs, there are eight laboratories (computer and science), as well as the premises necessary for school life (library, room for students, administrative offices, etc.).

This PASSIVE building has been studied and implemented to minimize energy consumption. The superstructure is made of reinforced concrete for better thermal inertia. The outer walls and roofs on slope are respectively composed of 36 and 40 cm of cellulose wadding impregnated in the structure formed of wooden boxes (U = 0.11 W/m2 K). Triple glazed windows are in wood with aluminum lacquered outside cover. An automatic motorized exterior sun blind prevents overheating.

From the point of view of special techniques (Special Building Techniques), the project has set up a dual flow mechanical ventilation with 80% heat recovery, free cooling, dimmable LED lighting on detection, reusing rainwater, 250 m² of photovoltaic panels (32 kWc).
